Head to the Nilgiris for you next vacation and revel in the charm of this 130 years old heritage home-stay called La Maison, built by a Scottish Man.

What Is This

This boutique homestay was built by Kay, a Scottish man in 1888 in a forest which was inhabited by tribes.  It came into the hands of locals which comprised 12 owners in the 1960s which was later bought by a Frenchman .  So basically this homestay has its roots in Scottish aesthetics with hints of French charm in the middle of beautiful Nilgiri forests. The original frame has been kept intact with six bathrooms and an additional glassroof creating bigger space and light.

What Else?

This homestay prepares meals with produce picked from their local markets and sometimes their garden. It’s as much a vegetarian’s paradise as it is  meat lover’s. They cook with minimum oil and always fresh herbs. They are sure to make your stay as close to being home. So much so that they prepare special diets for guests with particular health needs. You can even suggest your meals and they prepare it according to your taste.  You can even explore the traditional french cooking style mainly for non vegetarians in various styles – grilled, baked or steamed. In fact they go just beyond French and Indian cuisines. Italian, Marrocco or Spanish– bet you didn’t expect such varieties in an elusive cottage like this.

The host will take you on an exploration ride through the tea gardens and forests of Nilgiri. You will spot a fair bit of wildlife like bisons, sambars , deer and colourful birds. You will also find yourself stumbling upon pre historic tribal huts and British heritage buildings.
