Passengers Might Now Get A Compensation Of INR 20,000 In Case Of A Delayed Flight

Delayed flight at the airport? You might just get a compensation of ₹20,000 in case of delay or cancellation of flights. 

What Is It?

As recommended by the Union Aviation Ministry, flyers might be eligible to a compensation of ₹20,000 in a case of delayed or cancelled flight but the airlines are against this proposal. Airlines have warned passengers that in exchange of compensation, there might be a hike in the price of each trip! 

In a recent report, Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA), which is the umbrella body of airlines such as SpiceJet, GoAir, IndiGo and Jet Airways, claims that this proposal has been announced in safeguarding the interests of all passengers. They face a lot of inconvenience each trip flights are delayed or cancelled so it is only fair to grant them a compensation for the same.

What Do We Know?

Major reason for delayed flights at major airports of the country is the infrastructure issue at the airport. It is either that or due to a mishap by the officials and the lack of proper organization. The weather conditions also play a part in the delay/cancellation, but the airlines will not take responsibility for such an occurrence. The proposal has been passed on to the Central Government and they will decide on final protocol in this matter.
