Navi Mumbai folks will now be able to travel to South Mumbai via a ferry route that will cost almost as much as the Mumbai local.

What Is It?

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is all set to launch two ferry services connecting Navi Mumbai and South Mumbai. In July 2017, the Mumbai Maritime Board (MMB) received a green signal for a ₹10 crore plan to build a water way connecting Navi Mumbai to the rest of Mumbai.

The Route

Two air conditioned ferries will begin from Vashi and Belapur and will be launched by June 2018. This is the second part of the Thane to Vasai ferry which will connect Thane to Gateway Of India. This will be the easiest and cheapest mode of transport in all of Mumbai as passengers will have to pay only₹29 for travelling 47 kilometers.

The routes are as follows –
1. Thane- Kalwa-Airoli-Vashi-Trombay-Elephanta-Ferry Warf-Gateway of India
2. Thane-Vashi-Nerul-Belapur

This ferry route is bound to reduce vehicular traffic on Mumbai roads by at least 20% and nearly 40% reduction in pollution.
