UAE Public Sector Holiday Announced For Islamic New Year

What Is It?

The UAE Cabinet has declared Thursday, 13 September as a holiday for the public sector which includes ministries and federal entities to mark the new Hijri year. This means that work will resume on Sunday, 16 September for all public sectors. The private sector holiday date is yet to be announced & will be done so after the moon sighting in the country. The Islamic New Year is also known as Arabic New Year or Hijri New Year & is the day that marks the beginning of a new Islamic calendar year. It is the day on which the year count is incremented. The first day of the year is observed on the first day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar.
