1. Souvlaki at Gyros
Greeks are the master of charcoal grilled meat. Souvlaki is essentially the Greek version of the sheekhs that you find in India and the Middle East. Skewering mostly small portions of meat and sometimes vegetables, this is Greece’s favorite fast food. Served both with pita bread wrap or grilled bread along with tomato, onions and tzatziki, it is often accompanied with fried potatoes. The authentic Souvlaki uses pork for their servings, but chicken, beef and lamb are also common.

2. Fresh Grilled Fish at Amadeus
This is the shizzles if you are a fish lover. Fresh fish caught from the Mediterranean and Aegean sea, grilled to perfection and served with Greek salad. The fish is grilled wholly and drizzled with ladholemono (a combination of lemon and oil dressing). Restaurants mostly catch smaller and more flavourful fishes like Barbounia (Red Mullet) and Maridha (Whitebait) and lightly fried and presented to the diners.

3. Courgette Balls at Thalassa
Courgette is fancy Greek speak for Zucchini. It is apparently one of the country’s favourite and famous finger food. You mix the courgette with egg, mint, parsley, dill, garlic, cheese flour and breadcrumbs. Roll them into firm balls and fry them until golden. Voila! A finger licking snack is ready to be devoured

4. Kleftiko at Thalassa
When the Greeks sing, “Mary had a little lamb”, they end it with “and it was delicious.” Greek Mary was most likely having the delectable Kleftiko. The lamb is marinated with lemon juice and herbs. It is then slow cooked in a container. Lamb ‘kleftiko‘ literally means lamb ‘stolen’. We must warn you that this is not a dish that you can master easily, so kudos to the guys who get it right.

5. Moussaka at Aqaba
Although available throughout Middle East and in some parts of Asia, the Greek original recip e still rocks the culinary world. The art is in the layering and then baking it to the perfect temperature to reach the taste and texture that is unparalleled. Primarily an Aubergine based dish, it is also available with potatoes. Layered with sautéed Aubergine and tomato, with minced meat which is mostly lamb and Bechamel (white sauce). Vegetarian versions are also very popular.
