The mornings are not chilly anymore, the sun shines a little brighter and the skeletal branches of the trees have started sprouting tiny leaves with buds. Spring has sprung! It is time to go crazy over the pretty flowers, enjoy the fresh leaves, breathe in all the pollen in the air and embark on new beginnings! Sorry to all the people allergic to pollen, though you can also have new beginnings while you sneeze through the season. Know about all the jolly spring festivals from all around the world.

1. Holi

Holi is a Hindu spring festival of colours that is celebrated in India and Nepal. It marks the beginning of the spring season in these countries. During this festival, people play with gulal or coloured powders, water guns and water balloons, dance and eat delicious and traditional sweets. On top of that Holi also has a special drink associated with it. Thandai is a popular cold beverage that sometimes is mixed with bhang.

2. Songkran

This is a traditional Thai festival which marks the celebration of Thai New Year. it is a Thailand festival which is rooted in Buddhism. Sometimes, it is also known as the Water Festival because water is a crucial element of this festival. Why so? Well, during Songkran people have to clean their houses, pay respect to elders and visit temples. Therefore, to purify people splash water with water guns. You will enjoy lively street parades, dance and games.

3. Valencia Fallas

Commonly known as The Fallas, this is another traditional spring festival celebrated in Spain. It has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage event in 2016. It symbolises the arrival of the spring season, purification and revival of community social activity. There are marching bands, a parade of colourful sculptures and lastly wrapping up amazing fireworks.

4. Sechseläuten

This is an annual spring festival that takes place in Zurich, Switzerland. It typically falls on the first week of April and celebrates the beginning of spring. Böögg, a giant snowman-like creature is filled with fireworks which is set on fire. The time taken for Böögg’s head to explode is suggestive of how the summer is going to be.

5. Walpurgis Night

It was named after Saint Walpurga, an 8th-century abbess but also called May Eve. Saint Walpurga was known for her healing powers and traditionally this festival was linked to the arrival of spring and the revival of mother nature. This spring festival is celebrated in the region of Central and Northern Europe where people celebrate with huge bonfires, music, dance, and a great feast.

6. Cherry Blossom Festival

How could we not list the popular Cherry Blossom Festival of Washington for spring festivals? This is the sole festival that celebrates the pretty-looking whitish-pink blooms that attract a huge number of tourists from around the world. Did you know that these cherry blossom trees in D.C. were a gift from Japan in 1912? This was a symbol of friendship. Now there are multiple cultural events, yum Japanese food, parades and fireworks to celebrate this friendship.
