Lets admit it! Nothing gives us more pleasure than sitting with legs folded and eating roti, sabzi, daal and chawaal with our hands. A trip abroad with all the fancy food and we come back home longing for authentic Indian food.
Indian cuisine is more than just food. It is a journey of rich flavours with carefully preserved recipes. And the fact is – Indian cuisine restaurants do the best in India. No wonder then, last couple of years have seen many Indian cuisine restaurants cropping up. We thought, why not do a round up of some of the best ones in Mumbai.
1. Veranda, Bandra West
Built in the style of a sunlit courtyard, Veranda is located in the heart of Bandra. They serve deconstructed modern Indian Cuisine certainly without losing the traditional Indian flavours. The age old recipes and dishes are given a twist to recreate an absolutely new gastronomical experience from something old.
Their Dhaba Chicken Platter is a savory delight to the taste buds. Don’t miss out on the lip-smacking Kalakhatta Margarita and Chocolate & basil Lemonade. Let me tell you, it’s best to give them a call before hand to make your experience a sensorial treat.

2. Butter Chicken Factory, Bandra West
Butter chicken is that one delicacy which never tastes the same at any two places. This Punjabi eatery in Bandra is a delight to every Indian’s palate. Their Butter chicken and Chur naan will blow your mind. They have an impressive number of divine Punjabi dishes on their menu. The little devil inside your stomach craving for some flavourful Indian food will be quite satiated by the end.
When there, just don’t leave without tasting their Gulkand Malai Ice Cream. This might be that one thing that will call you back to this place again and again and again.

3. Zytun, Marol
Within Metropolis Hotel located in Marol lies an elegant restaurant, Zytun. This one serves a wide range of dishes, be it – Mughlai, Chinese or North Indian cuisines. Try their mouth-watering Dhingri Dolma and Murgh Mussalam along with Roti ki Tokri.
I am personally a fan of their Badami Chicken Tikkas with actual flakes of Badam which melt as soon as you put them in your mouth.
When: Only Dinners

4. Mostly Grills, Vile Parle East
We love this one for its ambiance. Mostly Grills in Orchid in Vile Parle East hosts a poolside open air cafe with the ultimate spice and taste of India. If you are lucky enough, you might catch a live performance or a themed evening with a great view at the rooftop. The open grill will tempt you with its aroma along with the sizzling spirits at the bar.
Mark my words when I say, it will be a satisfying experience for all your senses with a breathtaking view of the airport and Mumbai Skyline. Yes, there are no recommendations as it is almost next to impossible to point out the most popular cuisine. Enjoy this just out of the grill experience and thank us later.

5. Mirchi and Mime, Powai
The only restaurant in Mumbai that encourages usage of sign language; Mirchi and Mime is located in Powai. They serve an extremely well-conceptualised menu along with a well thought of Theme. Give your taste buds the privilege to feel the right balance of sweet, tang and fresh with Sharkhand Chaat, Mushroom Galouti, Water Chestnut, and Corn tikkas.
Don’t just stuff yourself with appetizers cause they have the best of Kaali Daal and Mutton Biryani. You’d not want to miss out their wide range of Desserts (Nutella and Toffee tart) and lip-smacking Mango Chilli Margarita and Anaar Martini. So, next time you know you’re going to be in Powai, reserve your table immediately. (The hotel has recently launched a gastropub – Madeira & Mime)

6. NRI BKC, Bandra
Located within Bandra Kurla Complex, the food at NRI is inspired by the Indian diaspora and has a very global touch to it. The dishes in listed menu are simple Indian cuisines with the touch of glocal flavors.
Karara Kekda (Softshell Crab) spiced with Malwan Masala is the chef’s specialty and is truly a winner. Sri Lankan Potli along with Idiyappam and Roti Canai is a massive gastronomic experience of flavour in the mouth. Don’t forget to check out their desserts section as there is always some room for the dessert.

7. Farzi Cafe, Kamala Mills
Adding a twist to everything they do, from starters to serving the bill is Farzi cafe at Lower Parel, A true designer experience. When here, you’d not want to miss out on Dal Chawal Arancini and Malaya Prawns. Oh, and lets not forget the Chicken Tikka Masala served in a London’s telephone booth miniature. Down it with a topsy-turvy of flavour, Kala Jamun Cocktail and feel the lightness in your stomach.
Last but not the least, the Milky Way Big Bang dessert would take your heart away with its presentation. Finding a table here is a task. It would be best if you reserve a table here and head to this ultimate experience of delectable food and enigmatic decor.
