Have you ever opened your cab booking application, fill in your location and destination, and closed it just because they charged a bomb? Well all of us for once have surely been through that. But recently a person tweeted about a similar situation and also wrote there that the flights to Goa are way cheaper than his ride back home.
Hefty Surge Prices
Shravankumar Suvarna booked an Uber cab to go towards Dombivali from Prabhadevi and later shared an image on Twitter. For a hatchback, the journey fare displayed on the app was ₹3,041, for a sedan, ₹4,081, and for an SUV, it was ₹5,159. He screenshotted it and put it on Twitter with the caption saying how a flight to Goa is cheaper than getting back home on Uber. The rider was trying to book a cab to his home in Dombivali around 9:30 pm. The tweet on hefty surge prices invited a lot of comments from people, especially the ones who have been through a similar situation. The surge prices kick in when the demand is high and the supply is low.

People Fume Over Surging Prices
Many passengers said that they depend on such cabs for their midnight journeys and such surging prices actually piss them off. You might get a cab at a normal price but that is not the case always. Under a license recently introduced by the transport department, aggregator cab firms will be required to follow central government guidelines that cap fares at 1.5 times the base rate. Provisional licenses were issued to Ola and Uber and also to Meru Mobility and Mahindra Logistics Ltd. to run aggregator cabs from April in Mumbai by MMRTA. But the implementations are on hold because Uber took it to Supreme Court.
