The legend behind this cheese’s origin is that a maiden forgot her pail of milk inside a cave. When she returned months later, she found that it had hardened into the delicacy we know and love today.

Legend says that it was created by accident in the 1st Century AD when a few curd pieces fell in hot water by accident.

As per the tale, it was also created by accident when a traveller in the 3rd Century BC filled his bag made of sheep stomach with milk. On the way, the milk sloshed around and curdled which created this cheese.
