9 Places To Check Out In Bihar's Nalanda

Nalanda University is one of the oldest in the world since the 5th century that has panels, stupas, stairways, dormitories, halls and more seeped in history and culture of India.

1. Nalanda University Ruins

It was erected in memory of Hiuen Tsang (also known as Xuanzang), a Chinese scholar who visited Nalanda for more than 12 years.

This is under the Archaeological Survey of India and houses Pala art, ancient relics, statues made out of basalt stone, bronze, terracotta and more. 

3. Nalanda Archaeological Museum

This 3rd-century stupa was built by the Mauryan emperor, Ashoka to honour Sariputra, one of the top disciples of the Buddha.

This is a temple dedicated to the mighty sun god where Chatth Puja is lavishly celebrated twice a year. It is in the Vaishakha and Kartika months of the Hindu calendar.

It is a modern institution for Buddhist studies and stands for the great historical significance of this region. Buddhism, Pali literature and philosophy are some topic that are popular here.

7. Nav Nalanda Mahavihara

It is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism where you can enjoy enchanting architecture, pond and lush greens.

8. Kundalpur Digambar Jain Temple

Also known as Shyama Mandir, the statue is a black stone statue of the Buddha adorning golden cloth, hence the name of the temple.
