1. To make the filling, take 1 tbsp ghee in a pan and add 1 cup of desiccated coconut to it. Mix it together. 2. Next, add ½ cup of grated jaggery and bring it all together.
3. Then, add ½ tsp of cardamom powder, a pinch of nutmeg powder, and some chopped cashew and pistachios. 4. Mix it all together, and bring it off the heat. Let it cool down.
5. To prepare the outer layer of the modak, take 1 1⁄4 cups of water in a pan and add 1 cup of rice flour to it. 6. Place a lid on it and let it cook till the whole thing comes together.
7. Let it cool down and then knead it to form a dough for the modak. 8. Cover it with a cloth and let it sit for a few minutes.
9. Now, grease the steamer and modak mould with some ghee. 10. Place some rice flour dough in the modak mould and leave a cavity in between for the filling.
11. Then, place the jaggery-coconut filling in the cavity and seal it with some more dough.
12. Steam the modaks for 15-20 minutes.
And your modaks are ready! You can garnish them with some nuts or have them as is!
