Today is World Pizza day and we thought of bringing you something interesting.
Pizza, a dish famous among the Americans and originating from Italy, was welcome in India in the early 1900s.
It is said that India's connection to Pizza is way old as the mozarella cheese used to make Pizza was made from Indian buffalo's milk.
Italian missionaries introduced the dish for the first time in India.
The British then reintroduced the dish but it did not catch up much until 1970s when it was one of the most popular dishes in India.
Cut to 2023, it is one of the most loved and commonly consumed dishes in the country.
India has a history of flatbreads and bread which made it easy for the dish to sneak in.
What made it popular are the different Indianised versions of the toppings available for the pizza.
And the influence of western culture too has its part to play.
