1. The most obvious difference is the colour. Dark Rum is a category of rum that encompasses a range of colours, including dark amber, brown, or even black. Black Rum, specifically refers to rums that are almost black in colour.

2. Dark Rum is generally aged in oak barrels. Black Rum can also be aged, but not all black rums undergo an extensive ageing process.

3. Dark Rum is usually made from molasses. Black Rum can be made from molasses or sugarcane juice.

4. Dark Rums tend to have a fuller, richer flavour with notes of caramel, toffee, and spices.  Black Rums often have a bolder and stronger flavour.
