Durga Puja is just around the corner and we are very excited to celebrate the festival in the grandest way possible. Just some days before the biggest festival of Bengalis begins, the Kolkata tram gets a new transformation.

Kolkata Durga Puja received UNESCO recognition in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list (ICH). To celebrate the recognition, artists painted the tram on the 150th anniversary of the Calcutta Tramway Company.

The exterior part of the tram's first compartment is decked up with paintings to honour the iconic Kumartuli. This is the most famous place in the city for potters sculpting idols. The bogie has been hand-painted with stories of everyone working behind all the festivities and celebrations of Durga Puja.

The interiors of the first bogie of the tram have been decorated beautifully with an alpona and a visual narrative.
