Festive Recipes: How To Make Puran Poli At Home

Puran poli

Puran poli is a traditional Marathi sweet prepared in every Maharashtrian household during festivals. 

INGREDIENTS (dough)

1 1/2-2 cups wheat flour 1/2-1 cup maida 1/4th tsp turmeric 1/4th tsp salt 1 1/3 tsp oil water

INGREDIENTS (stuffing)

1 1/2 chana dal (soaked for an hour) 1/2 tsp ghee 3 cups water

PROCEDURE

1. Take wheat flour, maida, turmeric, salt and oil in a bowl.  2. Knead a smooth dough using water.  3. Grease the dough, cover with a muslin cloth and keep aside for an hour!

PROCEDURE

4. Add soaked chana dal, ghee, turmeric and water in a cooker. Cook the dal for three whistles.  5. Drain and add in a pan on medium flame. Add jaggery and keep stirring. 

PROCEDURE

6. Now smash it all and keep stirring as it thickens.  7. Add ghee and cardamom powder and keep stirring making it into a soft dough.  8. Add this stuffing into the dough balls and form a huge ball. 

PROCEDURE

9. Now roll them into huge parathas without spilling out the stuffing.  10. Fry them on a hot tawa with ghee like you fry chapatis!

Serve it with some hot ghee on top!
