With summer here, many popular tourist destinations are introducing or increasing taxes for visitors to improve infrastructure and support sustainable tourism. Here’s all you need to know about it.

Greece raised its daily tourist fee to €8 per night (₹741) during the peak season from April to October. For the rest of the year, the fee drops to €2 (₹185). For islands like Santorini and Mykonos, tourists will have to pay €20 (₹1,854) per night upon arrival at the port.

Visitors entering Venice between 8:30 AM and 4 PM during select dates in April, May, June, and July will be required to pay a €5 (₹463) tax.

Portugal levies tourist tax in 13 major cities like Lisbon and Porto. From April to October, visitors need to pay €2 (₹185) per day.

France's tourist tax varies according to your accommodation. As per Travel and Tour World, for five-star hotels, the tax can go as high as €11.38 (₹1,055) per night. Meanwhile, four-star and three-star hotels charge up to €8.45 (₹783) and €5.53 (₹512), respectively.

From July 2026, Edinburgh will introduce Scotland’s first tourist tax and will levy a 5% charge on accommodation costs for all overnight stays, including Scottish residents, for bookings made after October 1, 2025.
