The first step is to wash the rice and rinse the dirt water thoroughly to get rid of the excess starch.

People do not generally follow this step regularly but you can do it if you have time. Toast the grains in a pan heated with some butter. Stir till everything gets cooked.

Following a proper ratio of rice and water is crucial. For a cup of rice, use about 2 cups of water. Double the water amount with respect to the rice.

Cook the rice on a low flame and cover the top till most water is absorbed well.

After you see that the grains are cooked well, turn off the gas and let the pot sit idle for about 10-12 minutes.
