Are There Rules?

Well, maybe not the only one—you still need to take a few easy but vital precautions.

1. Chills Are Necessary!

The Martini should be very cold. You can chill your glass in the freezer or with ice and water while you prepare the ingredients.

2. Mandatory Ingredient

Whether you prefer your martini dry or wet is a question of personal preference. But it has to have some vermouth or it's not a martini.

3. Always Stirred

Stirring is the traditional method and is gentler, resulting in a clear, silky drink.

4. Always Garnish

A classic Martini is often garnished with a lemon twist or an olive.

5. Glass Matters!

The Martini is typically served in a stemmed, wide-mouthed glass called a Martini glass or cocktail glass.
