Do try this quick recipe to add a new dish to your Iftar menu this Ramadan.
All-purpose flour, vegetable oil, butter, orange blossom water, honey, ground cinnamon, ground anise seeds, ground nutmeg, sesame seeds.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, vegetable oil, melted butter, orange blossom water, honey, ground cinnamon, ground anise seeds, and ground nutmeg. Mix well until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Divide the dough into small portions and roll each portion into a thin rectangle or square shape, about 1/8 inch thick.
Use a pastry cutter or knife to cut the dough into strips, then cut each strip diagonally to create diamond-shaped pieces.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large frying pan to 350°F (175°C). Carefully place the Chebakia pieces into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Remove the fried Chebakia pieces from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
While the Chebakia is still warm, dip each piece into honey, sprinkle sesame seeds over the top for garnish and serve after it is cool.
