Diwali is the festival of lights where all of us light diyas and candles at home and celebrate the glorious day. There are also a huge number of people who spend the night bursting crackers.

Well, not the entire country burst crackers yesterday. 7 villages in the Erode district of Tamil Nadu enjoyed the magnificent festival without any such firey celebrations.

Some of the villages that followed the tradition of Silent Diwali are Karukkankattu Valasu, Pungampadi, Sellappampalayam, Semmandampalayam, and Vadamugam Vellode, according to a report by India Today.

The villages of Tamil Nadu chose this unique tradition as a sweet gesture for the birds at a bird sanctuary in Vadamugam Vellode.

A massive number of birds stay at the bird sanctuary at this time of the year. Starting from October to January, these few months are the breeding season and different birds visit here every year.

The nearby villages have been following this special custom for more than 2 decades now.

Residents of villages close to the bird sanctuary do not burst loud and noisy firecrackers. They often light some sparklers only. Kids and children wear new outfits and enjoy.
