Recipe: Make This Easy Authentic Syrian Meat Dumpling, Shish Barak

What Is Shish Barak?

Traditionally known as Chuchvara, this Syrian dish is a simple meat dumpling.

Ingredients

Minced lamb or beef, onion, minced garlic, allspice, salt, and pepper,  dumpling wrappers or thin dough sheets, plain yogurt,  cornstarch, dried mint

Step 1 

Mix minced meat, onion, garlic, allspice, salt, and pepper in a bowl.

Step 2

Finely chop the red onion and add everything in a mixing bowl with other chopped veggies.

Step 3

Place a small amount of the meat mixture in each dumpling wrapper, then fold and seal them.

Step 4

In a pot, mix yogurt, garlic, cornstarch, dried mint, and salt. Cook over low heat, stirring continuously until it thickens

Step 5

Gently place the dumplings in the yogurt sauce and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the dumplings are cooked.

To enhance the freshness of the Shirazi Salad, tear the fresh mint leaves and sprinkle them over the top.
