Sweet, Spicy & Sour Fruits Pachadi

Kalyanam Pazha Pachadi or Fruits Pachadi is a speciality from South India, mainly served at weddings. It's sweet, spicy and sour. Check out Saraswathy paati's recipe.

Ingredients 

- 5 oranges(de-seeded) - a bunch of grapes - water, to boil - 1/2 cup of jaggery (adjust as required) - 1.5 tsp of red chilli powder - salt - 1 tsp of sugar / stevia - 1 tbsp of ghee - 1 tsp of cumin seeds - almonds (handful, chopped) - cashews ( handful, chopped) - 1.5 tsp of corn flour (made into slurry)

Step 1 

First, add water to a kadai and add de-seeded slices of oranges and a bunch of seedless grapes.

Then, add red chilli powder and salt and let it boil for a few minutes on medium heat.

Once this starts boiling and the fruits turn mushy, add jaggery and cover the kadai with a link. Once the jaggery melts, allow the dish to cool down.

Step 3

As the dish cools down, chop almonds, cashews, oranges and grapes.

When the mixture has cooled down, grind it in a mixer to make a coarse fruity paste.

Step 5

Make a tadka of cumin seeds and roast chopped almonds, cashews and chopped grapes and oranges in oil on low heat. Add sugar, red chilli powder, salt and mix well.

Step 6

Finally, add the ground fruit pulp and let it boil. Add the corn flour slurry and let it boil for 3-4 minutes.
