Make Sambar Premix At Home

If you crave Sambar during your foreign trips, then make this homemade Sambar Premix with you, a recipe by Aishwarya Sonvane.

Ingredients 

1 cup toor dal 1/2 cup masoor dal (optional) 1/5th cup rice 1 tbsp fenugreek seeds, 2 tbsp cumin seeds 1/2cup coriander seeds 10-12 dry red chillies 1 tsp black pepper 1 tsp cloves 1/4th cup tamarind 1/4th cup dry coconut 2 tbsp turmeric powder 1/4th cup Kashmiri red chilli powder salt as per taste 2 tbsp sambhar masala mustard seeds red chillies curry leaves ginger garlic paste sliced onions tomatoes pumpkin drumsticks, brinjal Water

Step 1 

First, dry roast toor dal, massor dal and rice and keep it aside.

On the same pan, dry roast all the whole spices, tamarind, dry coconut, curry leaves and red chillies.

Step 2

Mix the roasted rice and dal, roasted whole spices together along with spice powders.

Step 3

Grind this to make a fine powder.

Step 4

Run it through a sieve and your Sambar Premix is ready. Seal it in an airtight container and use it within 4-5 months.
