The Center formally began selling wheat that has been subsidized on Monday under the "Bharat Atta" brand.
The decision was made in order to relieve customers of the burden of exorbitant wheat prices in advance of the Diwali celebration.
Depending on the quality and region, wheat is currently sold for between ₹36 and ₹70 per kilogram. Bharat Atta is available at ₹27.50 per kg.
It will be distributed around the nation by cooperatives NAFED, NCCF, and Kendriya Bhadar through 800 mobile vans and about 2,000 retail locations.
About 2.5 lakh tonnes of wheat from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) would be allotted, according to Union Minister Piyush Goyal.
Of this, roughly one lakh tonnes will go to NCCF and Nafed, and fifty thousand tonnes to Kendriya Bhandar.
Apart from wheat atta, the Centre will also provide dal at ₹60 per kg through NAFED, NCCF and Kendriya Bhandar.
Apart from wheat atta, the Centre will also provide onions at ₹23 per kg through NAFED, NCCF and Kendriya Bhandar.
