arBhangarh Fort in Rajasthan for long has attracted tourists who wish to explore the haunted nooks and crannies that have been synonymous with the historic structure. Bhangarh Fort Is Probably The Most Haunted Place In India
As legends say, the Bhangarh Fort is probably the most haunted area in India, or Asia for that matter. There are a couple of stories that highlight the haunted nature of this fort, but it is forbidden to enter the fort after nightfall. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has concluded that paranormal activities have occurred inside the fort and it has a very negative vibe to it.
What Or Who Haunts The Bhangarh Fort?
Once a grand fort where great kings lived and now in ruins, the Bhangarh fort is said to have two legends which claim to send goosebumps down anyone’s spine.
The first says that King Madho Singh decided to build a fort. Baba Balau Nath, a sage used to meditate nearby. He allowed the king to build the fort on one condition — its shadow didn’t fall upon the ascetic’s home. If Baba Balau Nath’s condition wasn’t met by the king, he cursed that the entire city would be destroyed.
But as it turns out, the greedy successors of King Madho Singh ended up expanding the fort vertically which let the shadow fall upon the ascetic’s home. The inevitable happened and the fort became haunted.

Now for the second tale. Princess Ratnavati of Bhangarh was known to be very beautiful. Legend states that a black magician in the town fell in love with the princess. He bewitched a cosmetic and gifted it to her to fall in love with him, but the princess became suspicious of his intentions. She then poured the cosmetic onto a stone boulder to check for any black magic, but the supposed boulder ended up crushing the magician because of the spell cast on it. Before his end came near, the magician placed a curse on the fort and no soul has been able to live there peacefully since then.
During The Day, You Can Explore Many Tourist Spots Nearby
Keeping the haunted spooky vibes aside, the Bhangarh Fort is an architectural marvel. The remains of the fort also include minutely carved-out small waterfalls and temples along the way, which gives the area a unique tranquillity. Bhangarh Fort is nestled quite close to the lush green landscape of the Sariska Tiger Reserve.
The fort is a great place for tourists to visit during the day, but the locals tend to keep away from it. It is believed that the locals don’t build houses near the fort since the roofs of houses constructed near the fort collapsed shortly after construction.
