What Is It?
Located due North of Ladakh, the district of Lahaul-Spiti is an arid land barred with the ever majestic snow-capped mountains of the Himalayas. A high-altitude desert with stunning views of the naked landscape that lies in destitute of rain and vegetation, it is dotted with several monasteries, villages and lakes.
A drive through the beautiful meadows and streams flowing alongside the vast horizons of only blue tones will transcend you to a world of only peace and leave you speechless. The prayer flags quivering on every milestone and carvings on wheels will hint a culture of Tibetan Buddhism that exudes balance and positivity.

What’s In It?
Tabo Gompa Monastery – founded in AD 996 and often referred to as Ajanta of the Himalayas, this ancient monastery consists of 9 temples and several stupas made out of mud that surely tops our list.
Dhankar Gompa – Perched at a height of about 3900 feet, why it was also listed as one of the world’s 100 most endangered monuments, this monastery hangs by the edge of a mountain. With its breath-taking views to offer, the climb to this 1200-year old monastery is worth it.
Chandratal Lake – also known to be as the moon-shaped lake, it adheres to its name. If you happen to pass the Kunzum Pass, you might want to stick around for this picture perfect beauty with its waters changing colours throughout the day. Set in the most serene background underneath a surreal skyline, it is the ideal spot for all your thought processing and soaking in the good vibes from every corner.
Nonetheless, there are many places to visit in Lahaul-Spiti that are bound to make it the world’s best regions.

How To Get There?
How to reach: You could reach by two ways. By road, either via Manali or from Shimla. You could choose the former way because it will take you nearly 12-14 hours, but the latter might take you 2 days.
What to carry: The cold winter months are harsh, but the sunshine is equally harsh. Make sure you carry warm clothes, along with hats and sunglasses to protect you from the sun.
