Guess travelling got a bit more exciting for Delhiites. The Centre has come up with a proposal to launch ferry services on the Yamuna between Delhi and Allahabad.
What Is It?
The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) awarded a contract to a government consultancy to check on the feasibility of the ferry services and prepare a report on the project.
IWAI plans to introduce cargo services and also ferry passengers between North Delhi’s Jagatpur village and the Sangam in Allahabad.

The reports are being prepared in order to check the feasibility and the impact on the environment. The Yamuna, which is polluted in most parts of Delhi, gets cleaner and deeper upstream between Wazirabad and Palla on the Delhi-Haryana border. The only challenge could be before Agra where it becomes shallow.

The details of the ferry service haven’t been laid out as yet. The information regarding route, stops or the fare of the ride haven’t been revealed.
