Ever shopped from a market that’s floating on water? India’s first ever floating market opens up in Kolkata. While Dal Lake also has a market, it is the tourists who float to the shops that are still.

What Is It?

Ready to shop with a twist? Head to Kolkata’s floating market. Inspired from Bangkok, this market functions on floating boats. You can now shop for vegetables, fruits and fish at the beautiful lake of Patuli. The market has been created to rehabilitate shopkeepers from a nearby demolished market. Choose from 228 sellers with each boat housing 2 shops.

Nearly 10 crore has been used to develop the water body that supports these boats. The market is 500 meters long and 60 meters wide. You can shop from this market from 6 AM up to 9 PM, although there might be a break in the afternoon. You can even sit in the boats to enjoy a cup of hot tea.
