Pune will soon get 1,400 women-driven pink auto rickshaws. The Maharashtra government is all set to launch the Pink E-Rickshaw Scheme in Pune and the first fleet is expected to hit the road within the next two to three months. To make travel safer and more convenient for women, the Maharashtra government will launch the Pink E-Rickshaw Scheme in Pune. As part of this scheme, the government will deploy 1,400 women-driven pink e-rickshaws in the city. The scheme aims to make travel safer for women while also boosting job opportunities for them.

As per The Indian Express report, women drivers who wish to be a part of this scheme will only need to bear 10% of the auto-rickshaw cost. The Maharashtra government will fund 20% of the expense and the remaining 70% will be covered by a government-facilitated loan. This loan will be repayable over a tenure of five years.

Everything You Need To Know About The ‘Pink E-Rickshaw’ Scheme

The Pink E-Rickshaw Scheme is a joint initiative of the Maharashtra government and the Department of Women and Child Development (WCD). They aim to launch the scheme in all major cities of the state to make the commute safer for women and also create job opportunities for them. In its first phase, 10,000 e-rickshaws will operate across 17 cities in the state, The Indian Express reported.

Women interested in being a part of Pink E-Rickshaw Scheme in Pune will have to meet the following criteria –

1. Should be a resident of Pune.
2. Aged between 18 and 35 years.
3. Should possess a valid driving license.
4. Annual family income should not be more than ₹3 lakh.
