A mahout gives his/her everything to take care of the elephants and train them. Looking after such gigantic animals is a strenuous job and mahouts follow their responsibilities well to teach them new things, drive them, and become their keepers. Unfortunately, an elephant recently killed a mahout. This incident was reported in the Nadia district of West Bengal.

Iskcon and forest department officials stated that an elephant named Bishnupriya is the reason behind the mahout Samudra Rava’s death. The animal thrashed the mahout on a wall and put pressure on him harshly on Saturday evening, according to a report by Telegraph India. Samudra Rava came to Mayapur in the Nadia district from Assam’s Kamrup. He was working as the mahout of another elephant named Lakshmipriya living at a dedicated place in Iskcon.

In that separate place for animals, there were Samudra and Ajay Rabha, another mahout. He was sitting on the elephant’s back. Seeing Bishnupriya torturing Samudra, Ajay quickly jumped to save him. Meanwhile, he also faced injuries and fractured his leg while coming down the elephant. Ajay is the mahout of the 16-year-old elephant who killed Samudra on Saturday.

After the attack, people present there took Samudra to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, things were too late by them. He already lost his life. Later, the dead body was taken for post-mortem. Everyone was quite surprised to see the ferocious behaviour of the 16-year-old elephant. Officials of Iskcon Mayapur contacted the Forest and Animal Resources Development Department to find out why Bishnupriya reacted so fiercely.

Radharaman Das is Iskcon’s vice president. According to the report by Telegraph India, Mr. Das revealed that a veterinary officer visited the temple premises to check the elephant and come to the conclusion behind her aggression and why she pushed Samudra so harshly. Hormonal changes might be a reason behind all these, shared some officials of the forest department. The 16-year-old elephant was calmer than before on Sunday afternoon. Isckon’s management gave her bananas and added sedatives to the fruits.
