On Saturday morning, North India woke up to dense fog. A cold wave has taken over the region, causing temperatures to drop significantly and impacting flight operations for the second consecutive day. Delhi’s IGI Airport is the worst hit, as many flights have been delayed and several diverted because of zero visibility for the second day in a row. Many airlines have temporarily put operations on hold because of the weather conditions.
Flight Services Hit Due To Dense Fog Across Delhi & North India
A cold wave along with a thick layer of fog blanketed North India on Saturday morning. This severely hampered the flight operations in the region. According to NDTV, more than 170 flights were delayed at Delhi’s IGI Airport on January 4, and 38 were cancelled. The Delhi Airport has issued an advisory for passengers, informing them about probable flight delays due to the fog. They have requested flyers to contact the airlines for updates.
Besides Delhi, flight operations were also impacted at Srinagar, Chandigarh, Agra, Lucknow, Amritsar, Hindon, and Gwalior airports. They reported zero visibility on Saturday morning as well. On Friday morning, the visibility at Srinagar International Airport was reported at 300 meters and the Runway Visual Range (RVR) at 1100 meters. This caused several flight delays but operations were back to normal by the afternoon.

Airlines Temporarily Put Operations On Hold In Delhi
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted dense to very dense fog conditions in the Delhi-NCR region, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. As per the latest update, the general visibility at the Delhi IGI airport is zero. This caused airlines like IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet to issue travel advisories for the passengers.
In its latest update, IndiGo mentioned that Delhi “continues to experience significantly reduced visibility due to fog, impacting flight schedules.”
Air India and SpiceJet also advised their passengers to check the flight status and the latest update in Delhi as several flights have been impacted due to the fog.
If you’re travelling to or from Delhi or anywhere in North India, please make sure you check your flight status before heading out. Also, take care while driving as the low visibility can be quite dangerous.
