A recent survey conducted in Delhi-NCR has revealed that 18 per cent of respondents intend to burst crackers during Diwali, whilst 55 per cent plan to abstain from the practice. The study, carried out by LocalCircles with 10,526 participants, found that more than half of those surveyed cited pollution concerns as their reason for avoiding fireworks. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this survey.
18 Per Cent Families In Delhi NCR Plan To Burst Crackers
According to an article which was recently published by The Times Of India or TOI, 19 per cent expressed a desire to use crackers, whilst nine per cent definitively stated they would do so. As per the findings, nine per cent of respondents indicated they not only planned to burst crackers but also knew how and where to obtain them, despite current restrictions.
Eight per cent provided ambiguous responses. The survey’s demographic comprised 68 per cent male and 32 per cent female participants. The research highlighted a concerning trend of residents disregarding government advisories on fireworks, as evidenced by significant cracker usage during the recent Karva Chauth celebrations on October 20, 2024.
This suggests widespread possession of firecrackers, notwithstanding the comprehensive ban on their manufacture, storage, sale and use in Delhi-NCR, which remains in effect until 1st January 2025.
Other Important Details About The Findings Of This Survey
The survey’s timing coincides with deteriorating air quality across Delhi-NCR, where numerous areas have reported Air Quality Index or AQI readings exceeding 350, placing them in the “severe” category.
This concerning situation has sparked increased dialogue amongst residents regarding the effectiveness of the ban and its enforcement mechanisms as Diwali approaches. Whilst a majority express commitment to avoiding crackers due to environmental concerns, a significant minority appear determined to continue the tradition despite awareness of air quality issues and legal prohibitions.
The results suggest that authorities face ongoing challenges in ensuring compliance with anti-pollution measures, particularly during major festivals when cultural traditions often conflict with environmental regulations.
