The government has unveiled ambitious plans to develop ropeway connectivity at 18 prominent religious and tourist destinations across India, with the Amarnath shrine project emerging as the most significant. The government recently called for consultants to prepare detailed project reports or DPRs for these developments. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this particular initiative by the government for ropeway connectivity across popular tourist and religious sites.
18 Sites In India May Soon Get Ropeway Connectivity
According to an exclusive article that was recently published by News18, the proposed ropeway to the Amarnath shrine from Baltal stands out as the largest project. It will stretch across a whopping 11.6 kilometres. The ropeway aims to provide a more economical alternative for devotees.
As of now, pilgrims must either trek from Baltal or Pahalgam or opt for expensive helicopter services during the two-month annual yatra. Among other notable projects is one to Kerala’s Sabarimala Temple. It stretches across 2.62 kilometres and would eliminate the arduous two-hour climb from Pamba.
The ropeway planned for Tamil Nadu’s Parvathamalai Temple, a site steeped in Hindu mythology, is another significant development. This ropeway is 3.21 kilometres. A number of tourist destinations are also included in this particular scheme.
These Tourist Sites May Also Get Ropeways Soon By The Government
A 6.45-kilometre ropeway will connect Rajasthan’s Amer Fort with Nahargarh Fort. Another 1.6-kilometre link is planned for the Thajiwas Glacier from Sonamarg in Jammu and Kashmir. The project list also features a 3.21-kilometre ropeway from Mussoorie to Kempty Falls.
Other religious sites set to benefit include the Chamunda Devi Temple in Himachal Pradesh, Kunjapuri Temple in Uttarakhand, and various temples in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Assam.
Historical sites like Maharashtra’s Shivneri Fort, the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, will also receive ropeway connectivity. The National Highways Logistics Management Limited, an NHAI subsidiary, is overseeing these developments under the ‘Parvatmala Pariyojana’ scheme.
Several projects, including those at Kedarnath, Mata Vaishno Devi, and Shankaracharya Temple, are already underway.
