Wednesday morning started in the worst way possible for people in Taiwan. Consecutive two major earthquakes hit this country in East Asia this morning. It was after 5 AM IST when the first earthquake jolted followed by a second one before 8 AM IST. The harsh consequences, damages, and destructions made the present condition of the nation scary and worrisome.

Horrifying Earthquakes Rocked Taiwan On Wednesday

Taking to X, Antonio Maffei (@AGMaffei) shared a video showing the trembling shocks of the natural disaster facing the Taipei skyline.

It was sometime before 8 AM (according to local time) when a massive quake of 7.7 magnitude jolted Taiwan’s east on April 3. The Seismology Centre of Taipei said that it is being considered as the strongest earthquake in about 25 years. The United States Geological Survey and the National Center for Seismology specified that the disaster was of a magnitude of 7.4. On the other hand, the Meteorological Agency of Japan mentioned the magnitude at 7.7.

The first earthquake in Taiwan on Wednesday morning led to issuing tsunami warnings in Taiwan, the Philippines, and the southern part of Japan. The warning in Taiwan and southern Japan was issued by Japan’s Meteorological Agency.  The tsunami waves were expected to be ferocious and about three metres, according to a report by LiveMint. This was likely for the remote islands in Japan. NHK, Japan’s national broadcaster, mentioned how a tsunami was coming and requested people to evacuate soon.

The fire department stated that 4 people got stuck in the destruction caused by the earthquake in Taiwan and lost their lives. Over 50 have suffered from injuries too. A rescue operation is ongoing to save the people trapped there.
