So, just improving the maritime navigation, safety and fostering the creek’s ability when it came to handling a variety of marine activities, the development was of immense importance. It was a part of the municipality’s effort to preserve the heritage of the Dubai Creek. For those who weren’t aware, this is one of the most important maritime corridors in the emirate. Not to mention, this also supports the vision of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.
What About The Infrastructural Upgrade?
Coming back to the makeover, there were also several infrastructure and tourism upgrades made. For improving the water flow, the creek bed was dredged by 17,500 m³. Not too much, 24,000 m³ of precast blocks were also placed for strengthening infrastructure durability. As it happens, a total of 22,500 m³ of concrete was also used. Moreover, the quay’s rear yard was equipped with a 1200-meter rainwater drainage system. To make all of these developments happen, 6,20,000 man-hours were needed.
With the new public promenade designed in such a way that it offers the public a place to walk, this development also features handling zones for cargo. So, it’s not wrong to say that the creek doesn’t just have commercial but even historical importance in the emirate.
