Lonavala is beautiful throughout the year but it is a sight for sore eyes during monsoon! That’s why thousands of tourists from Pune, Mumbai, and other cities flock to this hill station to enjoy the weather and the serenity of nature. However, many tourists tend to engage in reckless behaviour. This usually involves taking photos near overflowing waterfalls and endangering their lives. Such behaviour had caused the Lonavala police to file charges against 26 tourists on July 28.

According to a report in The Bridge Chronicle, the Lonavala police booked charges against 26 people. They were booked for causing a ruckus by a waterfall near the Sahara Bridge on Sunday. The authorities booked them under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 for violating prohibitory orders. These tourists were travelling from Mumbai, Maval, Mulshi, Shikrapur, Shirur, Chakan, Khed, and Pune.

The Lonavala authorities have been taking a strict stance against such unruly tourists recenlty. This comes after a family of five was swept away in the waterfall near Bhushi Dam. Four kids and one lady from a Pune-based family tragically passed away in this incident. The unfortunate incident happened earlier in July and shocked the locals and tourists in this area. Since then, the Lonavala police and administration have been taking strict action against anyone found breaching security advisory around the waterfalls.

Seven tourists were charged on similar grounds on July 24. The Bridge Chronicle reported that they were booked near waterfalls in Ambegaon, Pawananagar, and the Bhaje areas. Furthermore, the District Collector had issued prohibitory orders at several tourist spots, especially around waterfalls, and these tourists breached them to take pictures near waterfalls.

We hope that other tourists travelling to Lonavala take these incidents as a lesson. No good picture is worth your life and breaching orders put in place for your safety is never a good idea.
