Mohammad Dulal, a 30-year-old man, committed the offence 30 minutes prior to the Vistara flight’s planned landing in Mumbai at 4:25 am. He was turned over to Sahar police, even though he was meant to join a connecting flight to Dhaka. On Thursday, the man was brought before the Andheri Court. The passenger was detained by police on remand until Friday.

According to a Times of India report, he was detained after the 22-year-old flight attendant reported him for trying to kiss and hug her while they were flying. When the staff and people on board intervened, he flashed at them. He disobeyed the captain’s instructions, ignored the Red Warning Card, and was labelled a disruptive passenger as a result.

The flight attendant, 22, claimed in the complaint that she was collecting the meal plate trays from customers when she spotted the accused passenger signalling her. She pushed the tram forward after obtaining the food tray from the accused in seat 19-E. He then jumped out of his seat, hopped over another passenger and stood in front of the tram. When he abruptly hugged and attempted to kiss her, she was taken aback.

The victim instantly yelled for help, and Mohammed Elham, a male attendant, sought to let her free. Mohammad Dulal, who had been tightly gripping the victim’s left hand, was subdued with the assistance of other passengers on board, according to authorities. When requested to sit down, he refused and continued to yell insults. He allegedly flashed the attendant and other passengers.

Though the captain was also made aware of the situation, the man continued his conduct despite the Red Warning Card being read and the people next to him being moved. Once the plane landed in Mumbai, he was restrained and seated by an attendant, according to the police.

According to the airline’s statement, “An incident regarding an unruly passenger was reported on Vistara flight UK 234 operating from Muscat to Mumbai on 6 September 2023. In view of the gross misconduct, the captain issued a warning letter and made the decision to restrain the customer. In accordance with the guidelines and our stringent standard operating procedures (SOPs), the security agencies on-ground were informed to take immediate action upon arrival. The customer has been taken into custody for further investigation by the security agency at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai. The incident has been reported to the local authorities as per the SOPs. Vistara stands firm with its zero-tolerance policy against unruly behaviour that endangers the safety, security, and dignity of its customers and staff.”
