309-Km New Rail Line Between Mumbai & Indore Gets Approved; Will Improve Connectivity For 30 Lakh Travellers In 1,000 Villages

India’s railway network is growing and improving! The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved a new rail line project that will connect Indore and Mumbai. To be helmed by the Ministry of Railways, this ₹18,036 crore project will provide the shortest rail connectivity between the two cities and will be completed by 2028-29. New Mumbai-Indore Rail Line Gets Approved

On Monday, the CCEA approved a 309-km new line project that will connect Maharashtra’s Mumbai to Madhya Pradesh’s Indore. The project will be completed by 2028-29 under the supervision of the Ministry of Railways. As per an NDTV report, the estimated cost of this new railway project is approximately ₹18,036 crore.

This new Mumbai-Indore railway line will connect the two cities through the shortest rail route. The new project will also cover six districts across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh and extend the existing railway network by about 309 kilometres.

Reportedly, 30 new stations will be built for this project to improve connectivity. This new railway line will connect about 1,000 villages in the two states and will improve travel infrastructure for more than 30 lakh people in the region.

Besides that, it will also enhance the movement of goods and services, and boost regional tourism. Indian Railways expects regional tourism between Western, Southwestern, and Central India to improve significantly with this new line as tourists will be interested in visiting sites like Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain, Indore.

₹18,036 Crore Railway Project To Be Completed By 2028-29

The new Mumbai-Indore railway line is expected to be built at an estimated cost of ₹18,036 crore by 2028-29. As per the NDTV report, this new project will accommodate an additional 26 million tonnes of freight per annum for the Indian Railways. This project will also generate direct employment for 102 lakh man-days during the construction.

Interestingly, the railways have also mentioned that this new railway line will support the government’s climate goals by reducing logistics costs. They will be cutting oil imports by 18 crore litres and also lowering CO2 emissions by 138 crore kg!
