In a world often overshadowed by conflicts and divisions, Nitin Sonawane, a 32-year-old engineer from Maharashtra, India, is on a remarkable mission. He aims to sow the seeds of peace and non-violence around the world. And to spread the message and celebrate the spirit of Indian Independence, this Gandhi peace walker reached UAE in time.
A 32-YO Man From India Spread The Message Of Peace Across The World
Since 2016, he has been traversing the globe on foot and by bicycle, propelled by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. Sonawane’s incredible journey has taken him through 48 countries, covering an impressive 40,000 kilometres, a testament to his unwavering commitment to spreading a message of harmony.
Inspired by Gandhi’s philosophy, Sonawane embarked on his expedition from Sevagram Ashram in Wardha, a place deeply intertwined with Gandhi’s life. Though initially accompanied by four friends, he eventually continued his odyssey alone.
The scope of Sonawane’s travels is breathtaking, encompassing Thailand, Vietnam, China, Japan, the US, Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, South Africa, and numerous other nations. He has cycled 25,000 kilometres and walked 15,400 kilometres, bearing a backpack containing essentials and a flag adorned with Gandhi’s image. Along the way, he has engaged with locals, students, educators, diplomats, and the media, sharing insights on peace and non-violence. Dedicating each leg of his journey to specific aspects of Gandhi’s life, Sonawane has highlighted resonances between Gandhi and Nelson Mandela’s struggles against discrimination in South Africa.

What Is His Doing In UAE For Indian Independence Day?
In the UAE, his focus lies on the camaraderie and ideology shared by Gandhi and Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, champions of non-violence and Hindu-Muslim unity during India’s fight for independence.
Recently arriving in Ras Al Khaimah, Sonawane initiated his UAE sojourn, aiming to traverse Ajman, Sharjah, and Dubai, and culminating his trek at the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi on August 15 2023, 77th India’s Independence Day. This journey also includes explorations of the UAE’s historical and cultural treasures.
Sonawane acknowledges the hurdles and perils he’s encountered, yet he has also experienced remarkable support and warmth from diverse cultures and communities.
