Named after the local sweet seller, Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati is a landmark temple in Pune. It was founded in 1893 after Dagdusheth Halwai lost his sons due to the plague. The temple became popular for its history and celebration of Ganeshotsav celebrations. Like every year, women came together to celebrate the festival by reciting ‘Atharvashirsh’ and performing maha aarti.
Woman Recite ‘Atharvashirsh’ At Pune’s Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati
On the occasion of Rishi Panchami, as has become customary throughout the years, Atharvashirsha recitation was once again held in the city’s Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati pendal. It attracted more than 36,000 women from all regions of the city.
This was the 36th year that the Atharvashirsha recitation was held annually at the Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati as part of the Ganeshotsav festivities. The gathering, which begins as early as two in the morning, brings together women from various sections of the city in traditional clothing to participate. Women dressed in traditional clothes may be seen along the road adjacent to the pendal.
According to the members of the trust, women from Thailand and Russia also took part in the recitation this year. The officials report that not only were there ladies from Pune but also from other regions of the state, making this year’s participation by women the greatest to date. In order to prevent congestion, the city police’s traffic division redirected vehicle traffic during this time.

History Of The Temple
The Dagdusheth family and their neighbours observe Ganeshotsav with utmost devotion. Dagdusheth Ganpati became the most revered and well-liked idol in Pune when Lokmanya Tilak turned the Ganpati festival into a public event to unite people for the independence movement.
Dagdusheth Halwai Sarvajanik Ganpati Trust has grown into a venerable institution that is pleased to adore the Lord via its service to humanity thanks to Lord Ganesha’s blessings. The temple is a stunning building with a lengthy history dating back more than a century. The two marble sentinels, Jay and Vijay, immediately attract everyone’s attention. Since the building is so straightforward, everyone outside may observe all of the temple’s activities including the exquisite Ganesh statue.

The Ganesh idol measures 2.2 metres in height and 1 metre in width and has around 40 kilogrammes of gold decorations. Recently, actress Amruta Khanvilkar visited the temple to seek blessings from bappa!
