In a recent tragic incident, 4 Indian students in Russia drowned in a river. These young individuals were medical students. According to several reports published on the Internet, they drowned in the Volkhov River close to St. Petersburg. The concerned departments and authorities are relentlessly working to find the bodies from the river. Here are all the recent updates about the shocking incident.

Indian Medical Students Died Drowning In Russia

Randhir Jaiswal, Official Spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs, India, tweeted about the tragic incident of these young students.

Ministry of External Affairs issued a Press Release about this horrifying episode reported in Russia. According to the release, they were pursuing their degree at the Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University in Russia’s Veliky Novgorod. Along with these 4 students, another medical student named Nisha Bhupesh was also trapped in this life-threatening incident. However, the rescuers were able to rescue her from drowning. She is currently under medical assistance.

As per the local news, a girl in that group waded out in the river and others rushed ahead to help her. Their helpful gesture cost their lives. The operation to find other deceased bodies is still ongoing. Students who lost their lives in this terrifying accident have been identified as Harshal Anantrao Desale, Jia Firoj Pinjari, Jishan Ashpak Pinjari, and Malik Gulamgous Mohammad Yakub, according to a report by India Today.

An official of the university stated that the medical students were simply walking by a beach near the Volkhov River. It was during the evening when all of them were taking a walk there. Their evening walk turned out to be a misfortunate accident and 4 of them ended up losing their lives drowning in the river water.

According to the latest information, the rescuers and local emergency services found two deceased bodies in the river as of now. The teams are still looking out for the other 2 students drowning in the Volkhov River. “Our Consulate in St. Petersburg is coordinating with local authorities for the repatriation of the mortal remains”, stated the Ministry of External Affairs. All these 5 students are from the Jalgaon district of Maharashtra.
