533 Metre-Long Bridge In Brazil Collapses, Tanker Carrying Sulphuric Acid Falls Into River; 1 Dead

In an unfortunate turn of events, a bridge connecting two states in two regions in Brazil collapsed. On Sunday, a devastating incident was reported on the 533-metre-long bridge connecting this country’s northern and northeastern regions. A tanker carrying sulphuric acid fell into the Tocantins River. The accident created a huge chaos at the spot. Necessary action was taken to rescue people from the tragic situation.

Bridge Collapse Incident In Brazil Killed One Person

Taking to the X platform, ᗩᒪEᖇTᗩ ᗰᑌᑎᗪO 🌎 (@AlertaMundo_) shared a shocking video of the broken bridge.

On Sunday, several vehicles were crossing the Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira Bridge when it collapsed suddenly in the afternoon hours. Among the vehicles, a tanker was crossing the flyover as well. Unfortunately, it plunged and spilt sulphuric acid into the river water, as shared by National Department of Transport Infrastructure officials.

According to several reports, at least one person has died. According to a report by The Times of India, the rescue team confirmed the fatality and another person was rescued alive from the horrifying accident. Preliminary reports of the accident were found and these details stated that about 11 people were involved in this bridge collapsing incident in Brazil.

As per several reports, a car, a motorcycle, and two trucks fell into the Tocantins River. The vehicles plunged into a waterway with a depth of over 50 metres. Sharing necessary information about the accident, the fire department revealed that the rescue diving team stopped deep diving into the river after finding out that a tanker with sulphuric acid had fallen into it. They stopped operating in the early evening.

X user Avinash K S🇮🇳 (@AvinashKS14) shared terrifying glimpses of the bridge accident.

Surprisingly, Elias Junior, the Aguiarnopolis city councilman, was present near the bridge when it began collapsing. He was recording a video to raise concerns about the construction and asking authorities to repair the issues. He was addressing the problems as he believed that the bridge was unable to manage the overall weight of trucks. After he focused on a crack on the bridge’s shoulder, it started breaking down.
