The simplest and most basic things look the most stunning, unique, and vibrant by adding a pop of colour. Imagine walking by a lane and witnessing that street’s daily life stories and instances represented somewhere. Seems magical, right? A famous Singaporean artist impressed everyone with his spectacular mural on a wall in Coimbatore’s Ukkadam. I cannot take my eyes off it and how elegantly he added special additions to the grand art piece.
Meet Yip Yew Chong, The Singaporean Artist Whose Mural Is Making Headlines!
Yip Yew Chong received a call about a new project from India. The call was about dazzling up an entire residential building with his magical mural painting skills and displaying the stories of the everyday life of people in the locality. Looks like such a fascinating idea, right? Well, the artist surely did what he was expected to do and he presented the final results most exceptionally. Every small detail of the mural brings out such a humble aura and showcases the little joys of life.
Taking to Instagram, Yip Yew Chong shared glimpses of the entire process of transforming the wall with his art and posted some memorable anecdotes of the mural painting journey as well. The artist shared how he was inspired by immersing himself “in the community and local culture”. It helped him to paint and colour with his heart for the local community and people.
Sharing the progress of his mural painting in Ukkadam, the Singaporean artist revealed how the people loved and related to the transformation. “When they stopped by, they gave me the “Supera”👌🏾 hand signals”, he added. Looks like Yip had an amazing time spending 9 days in Coimbatore, working, painting, and exploring. “The team is helpful, the residents are friendly, and the weather is kind too. All of these make for an enjoyable immersive experience”, shared the artist.
What Are The Special Additions To This Magnificent Painting?
From a vendor making crispy dosas to authentic cuisine served on a banana leaf, he got inspired by different things happening all around. Seeing a pani puri stall, he even got the idea to add such a stall to the mural. I love the part of a man pouring garam chai into a cup. On the last day of finishing the mural, he added the phrase “வாங்க சாப்பிடலாம்” translating to ‘Come let’s eat’ to the huge blue wall.
Yip had a great time presenting the community on the building wall. And viewers clearly loved and enjoyed the entire process.
What about you? Do you love the mural by this Singaporean artist?
