Have you ever wondered how we often end up paying hundreds for a cup of coffee, a burger, or a plate of momos at airports? Food at airports is very expensive and costs many times more in comparison to restaurants and food outlets established outside. A recent survey revealed how these establishments are overcharging passengers excessively based on responses from travellers flying with different airlines.

What are you in the mood for? Do you want to munch on savoury bites or enjoy a full Indian meal? From snacks to beverages, you will find probably every dish at airports these days. Unfortunately, passengers need to shell out a lot for the most basic food items. How much does a samosa cost at any local shop? Not more than ₹40, right? Well, get ready to pay at least ₹200 for a single samosa at any swanky airport. A cup of joe will cost you around ₹300. Imagine how many cups of tea or coffee you will get at this amount.

Recently, LocalCircles conducted a national survey and revealed shocking results about the alarming surge in charges for food at airport outlets. According to the responses, 58 per cent of passengers highlighted airports charging 100-200 per cent more prices for food items and beverages. This difference is in comparison to eateries and restaurants located in different Indian cities.

Among 14,841 respondents, 58 per cent stated how airports charged them 100-200 per cent higher than the original costs for food and beverages.
