Thailand is all set to make air travel more seamless for flyers! As per reports, six Thai airports will introduce an automated biometric identification system in November for domestic flyers. This means no more boarding passes or multiple physical ID verifications for passengers. Read on to know more about this.
Thailand Airports To Introduce Facial Recognition System Soon
Thailand has announced that they will roll out a biometric identification system using facial recognition technology at six airports in the country. According to a Bangkok Post report, the system will be ready for domestic passengers from November 1, 2024. As for international passengers, the system will be rolled out on December 1, 2024.
The airports that will use the system include Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Don Mueang International Airport, Chiang Mai International Airport, Mae Fah Luang/Chiang Rai International Airport, Phuket International Airport, and Hat Yai International Airport.
To use this new biometric identification system at the airports, the passengers will have to allow access to their identification information while checking in at the counter or self-service check-in at the airports.

How Will This New System Help Passengers?
Once the passenger is checked in the system at the airport in Thailand, then they will just have to scan their faces with the facial recognition technology and travel seamlessly! The new system will collect flyer’s biometric information and travel itineraries electronically. This will allow the passengers to skip the usual document checks at various airport points like baggage drop-off, security checkpoints and boarding gates.
This will help significantly reduce waiting times and also streamline the overall travel process for the passengers. However, it is to be noted that each registration on this system is for only one journey.
