Sustainability is a social goal that involves considering the environment, economy, and society while using natural resources. Over the years, people have been advocating and taking up this practice in all aspects of life and travel is one of them. Agoda recently released its 2025 Sustainable Travel Survey and it revealed that India is the second most sustainability-conscious travel market in Asia. Scroll on to know more about this.
In 2025, Sustainability Takes Priority For Indian Travellers
Digital travel platform Agoda’s 2025 Sustainable Travel Survey is out and it has unveiled some interesting findings. The survey found that four in five Indian travellers, that is about 82% of Indians, are factoring sustainability into their 2025 travel plans. What’s interesting is that this is much higher than the average for all Asian travellers combined (68%).
India emerged as the second most sustainability-conscious traveller in Asia, following the Philippines. According to the survey, Indian travellers are embracing sustainable travel with a strong emphasis on community impact and meaningful experiences. Around 24% of respondents chose personal values and beliefs as their top motivation for sustainable travel. Meanwhile, 21% of travellers are seeking authentic and purposeful tourism in 2025. This shows how travel is becoming more meaningful and enriching for both travellers and the destinations they visit.
So, how are Indian travellers planning sustainable travel? They are choosing accommodations with sustainability certifications, using public transport, or walking/biking instead of driving, and packing reusable items to minimise waste while travelling.
