Western Railway or WR has announced extensive infrastructure maintenance operations that will substantially impact local train services across Mumbai this weekend. Commuters should prepare for major travel adjustments during critical bridge replacement and infrastructure enhancement works. There will be a mega block on the Western Line starting today for a total of 9.5 hours. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this particular mega block on the Western Line.
9.5-Hr Mega Block Announced On Western Line From Today
According to an article that was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, on the night of Friday, January 24, 2025, a comprehensive mega block of 9.5 hours will commence. The block will be between Bandra and Mahim and will necessitate service modifications.
Six key stations will experience service interruptions. These are Mahalaxmi, Lower Parel, Prabhadevi, Matunga Road, Mahim, and Khar Road. WR will undertake the replacement and reinforcement of a British-era bridge over the Mithi River.
This will result in the cancellation of 127 train services on 24-25 January and 150 services on 25-26 January. Evening and night-time services will be significantly altered. The final Churchgate to Borivali train will depart at 1 am.
Train Services To Be Severely Impacted On This Line
Trains departing Churchgate, Virar, Bhayandar, and Borivali after 11 pm will operate on fast lines between Mumbai Central and Santacruz, bypassing the specified stations. Saturday morning’s services will see further modifications.
Trains from Virar, Nallasopara, Vasai Road, Bhayandar, and Borivali terminate at Andheri. Normal services will gradually resume, with the first fast train to Churchgate departing Virar at 5:47 am. Simultaneously, Central Railway or CR will conduct a six-hour block on Saturday night for the new Carnac Bridge project.
Services between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Dadar will be disrupted from 11 pm to 5 am. The new 70-metre bridge, replacing a 154-year-old structure, represents a ₹55 crore investment and is scheduled to open before the monsoon season.
Railway authorities advise passengers to plan journeys meticulously, remain informed about schedule changes, and anticipate potential delays during these critical infrastructure enhancement works.
