Picture this: you’re sipping a mocktail on a balcony, the sea swirling beneath you, and your hotel is gently rotating. No, you’re not hallucinating; this was the grand plan for Qatar’s floating hotel, a bold concept dreamt up by the Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio (HAADS). Ambitious? Absolutely. Achievable? Well, let’s find out!
Is Qatar’s Rotating Eco-Hotel Just a Dream? Here’s What We Know
The Eco-Floating Hotel is an architectural marvel designed to redefine the way we stay. This five-star spectacle was supposed to spread across 8.6 acres of the Persian Gulf, featuring 152 rooms that rotate slowly to give each guest a full panoramic sea view. Think of it as a luxury merry-go-round with sustainability as its prime motive.
From a sustainability standpoint, the hotel ticks all the right boxes. It generates its own electricity using the water currents, filters rainwater for its gardens, and even turns food waste into fertiliser. There’s no waste here, just pure, green genius.
An Array Of Amenities To Look Forward To
Talking about amenities, they have an indoor and outdoor pool, a state-of-the-art gym, spa, sauna, a basketball court, and even a mini golf course for those competitive beach-goers. Plus, a glass-floored lobby to remind you that, yes, you’re floating above the sea.
You can reach the floating hotel in three ways. First, by walking along a 140-degree curved floating pier. Second, by boat from the sea. And finally, by helicopter or drone landing on the helipad on the floating pier.
The hotel’s 700-square-metre central lobby offers stunning views through its transparent walls, letting guests feel the gentle movement of the structure. Every room features a private balcony, providing unique panoramic views. All hotel platforms, including the link to the shore, float independently. Since the hotel will be leased periodically, it can be relocated easily once it gains the necessary water currents, without extra requirements. The project’s concept has been approved, with feasibility and technical studies ongoing. While there’s no fixed completion date yet, the structure is aimed to be ready by 2025.
The Verdict?
The Eco-Floating Hotel was supposed to be completed by 2025, but there’s no specific date announced for the launch.. It’s an incredible concept, one that challenges the norms of both architecture and sustainability.
So, will Qatar’s floating hotel ever set sail? Possibly. Still, we’re holding onto hope. Because in a world of exquisite hotels, this idea floats high above the rest. And when it does become real (fingers crossed), you’ll find us first in line, passport in hand, pool towel over the shoulder.
Until then? We’ll be watching the waves and dreaming big.
