A Weakened Cyclone Biparjoy Moves Towards The Gujarat-Rajasthan Coast; Evacuations Underway

Cyclone Biparjoy Is Moving Towards The Kutch Coasts

In view of Cyclone Biparjoy which is stated to make landfall on June 15, the Western Railways cancelled 67 trains and short-terminated or short-originated 43 others as a precautionary measure. It is stated to make footfall on the Saurashtra-Kutch coast of Gujarat on June 15 and enter southwest Rajasthan on June 16.

Moreover, The Indian Coast Guard had evacuated 50 personnel from an oil rig located 40 km off the Dwarka coast in Gujarat in an overnight operation amid inclement weather conditions due to the impending cyclone.

Cyclonic storm Biparjoy went from being extremely intense to becoming very severe. It nonetheless continued on its route towards Gujarat’s Saurashtra-Kutch coast. Beginning on Tuesday, the Gujarat administration will begin evacuating residents of at-risk locations up to five kilometres inland, and on Wednesday, it will do the same for those residing in huts and kuchcha homes up to ten kilometres inland.

As a precaution, more than 8,000 people had been relocated to temporary cyclone shelters by Monday night. The six coastal districts have also been instructed to close their schools.

This Is Gujarat’s 1st Cyclone In 25 Years

The Gujarat coast is preparing for a cyclone in June for the first time in 25 years. Biparjoy would be the fifth cyclone of the “severe” (wind speed of 48 to 63 km/hr) or higher category to cross Gujarat, according to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast. According to the statistics, Biparjoy is the first ‘very severe’ cyclone to form in the Arabian Sea in June in 58 years.

Even, Delhi recorded Tuesday’s low temperature to be 29.8 degrees Celsius, and severe surface winds were expected later in the day. Delhi residents may look forward to some relief from the heat on Thursday and Friday when light showers are expected in the city as a result of Cyclone Biparjoy, which is intensifying in the Arabian Sea.

Also, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will preside over a review meeting to discuss hurricane preparation. Bhupendra Patel, the chief minister of Gujarat, and representatives from a number of the state’s districts are slated to virtually attend the conference on Tuesday.
