AB de Villiers MS Dhoni

The former South African cricketer, AB de Villiers, joined Mashable India’s Siddhaarth Aalambayan for one of our Sunday Brunch episodes. From speaking about the SA20 tournament to IPL matches, and his friendship with Indian cricketers, we covered it all. This time, we reflect on his relationship with MS Dhoni; read on.

AB de Villiers Spoke About The Legendary Cricketer, MS Dhoni

Before wrapping up the episode, Siddhaarth asked de Villiers about some of his closest Indian cricketer friends. Earlier in the video, he shared the brotherly bond between him and Virat Kohli. They explored Indian cuisine and bonded over sports, IPL and more. Virat even introduced him to paneer for the first time, and he completely adores cottage cheese now.

The next in line was the greatest of all, Thala, MS Dhoni! AB de Villiers praised Dhoni, “He is just the legend of the game and a humble, nice guy.” The ex-South African cricketer also highlighted how down-to-earth our Thala is. As an introvert, he mostly keeps to himself, focuses on cricket, remains close to his dear friends and takes the cricket ground by storm.

de Villiers stated, “To be honest, I don’t think he has shared himself with a lot of people, so I don’t know him that well. He has always shown respect to me and we’ve had a couple of small chats together. But he is always very introverted in a way.”

All the MS Dhoni fans who would cross oceans to catch a glimpse of him, eagerly wait for some updates or recent pictures will surely relate to the above statement by our guest.

Continuing on the same topic, de Villiers reflected on the iconic moment from the final match of 2011’s World Cup between India and Sri Lanka. Yes, the one where India lifted the trophy for World Cup! He said, “I think of 2011, scoring that six, final six to win the World Cup for India with his great leadership and calmness was brilliant.” Thala for a reason!

Then he shifted his focus on how well he is doing in IPL for Chennai Super Kings. We all know how well this team showcases its talent on the cricket grounds. He concluded with a smile on his face, “I have a lot of respect for him and what he has achieved in life and we’ll remain friends for a long time.”
